Day 33: Much shorter riding day today. Only 49 miles to Glasgow - limited again by available population centers. Our next reasonable place to stay would have been Malta, 71 miles away. We felt a 120 mile day would be pushing our luck. We checked into an atmospheric 100+ year old renovated hotel with spacious rooms and high ceilings, and watched the USA women's World Cup semifinal match, having procured a 6-pack, chips, cookies, and bananas at the local Albertsons. With sufficient motivation, we seem to find room in our panniers - extra weight be damned. It was overcast and cool all day. Rain materialized again this afternoon, rinsing away any guilt we might have had for a shorter riding day.By chance, we encountered the only west-bound rider so far on our trip also having lunch at the Glasgow Subway. Rob teaches at Hunter College in NYC, and he had completed another coast to coast ride in 2018 across central USA. He said it was blazing hot in Kansas last year, and he would start riding at 3:30 am to outrun the heat.
Tim went to the local museum to absorb some Montana culture and homesteader history. The others made the 2 block excursion to the local library to utilize the computers. We all enjoyed a quiet, placid afternoon and evening.
